Vaccinations

Vaccines, tailored to your pet — not a one-size schedule.

Core vaccines protect against the diseases every pet should be covered for. Lifestyle vaccines depend on where your pet goes and what they do. We talk through both before we vaccinate, and we use titer testing where appropriate to avoid over-vaccination.

Core Vaccines

Protection every pet needs.

Core vaccines defend against diseases that are widespread, severe, or transmissible to people. We follow AAHA and AAFP guidelines and document everything so boarding facilities, groomers, and travel records are always current.

  • Dogs: DAPP (distemper, adeno, parvo, parainfluenza)
  • Dogs: Rabies (1-year and 3-year)
  • Cats: FVRCP (rhino, calici, panleuk)
  • Cats: Rabies
  • Boosters spaced for full immunity
  • Records sent to boarding/groomers
  • Reminders by email & text
  • California-compliant rabies certificates
Lifestyle Vaccines

Optional protection, based on real risk.

Not every pet needs every vaccine. We assess your pet's actual exposure — daycare, hiking, travel, indoor-only — and recommend only what makes sense. No upselling.

  • Bordetella (kennel cough) — boarders & daycare
  • Canine influenza — daycare & shows
  • Leptospirosis — hikers & water-exposed
  • Lyme disease — travelers to endemic areas
  • Rattlesnake vaccine — hiking dogs
  • FeLV (cats) — outdoor or multi-cat homes
  • Risk reviewed at every annual
  • We say "no" when it's not needed
Puppy & Kitten Series

Building immunity, week by week.

Young animals need a series of boosters because maternal antibodies interfere with single-dose immunity. We schedule the full series at the first visit so nothing gets missed — and we make every visit feel like a treat party, not a medical appointment.

  • First exam at 6–8 weeks
  • Vaccine series every 3–4 weeks
  • Final puppy/kitten vaccines at 16+ weeks
  • Deworming at every visit
  • Fecal screening included
  • Spay/neuter consult at 4–6 months
  • Treat-and-praise low-stress handling
  • Free nail trim with each visit
Titer Testing

When to skip a booster.

Titer testing measures the antibodies already in your pet's blood. If immunity is still strong, we hold off — protecting your pet from unnecessary vaccination while keeping records compliant.

  • Distemper / parvo titers (dogs)
  • Panleukopenia titers (cats)
  • Sent to validated reference lab
  • Results in 5–7 days
  • Helpful for senior or immune-compromised pets
  • Required by some boarding facilities
  • Documented for travel records
  • Discussed at the wellness exam

Common Questions

Vaccination FAQ.

How often does my pet really need vaccines?
Core vaccines are boosted every 1–3 years depending on the vaccine and your pet's history. Lifestyle vaccines are usually annual. We don't over-vaccinate — your pet's schedule is reviewed at every wellness exam.
What are the side effects?
Most pets have no reaction. Some get mild lethargy or soreness for a day. Serious reactions (vomiting, swelling, hives) are rare but happen — call us immediately if you see them and we will see you that day at no charge.
Can I skip rabies?
No. California law requires rabies vaccination for all dogs and cats over 4 months of age. We provide compliant certificates and report to the county as required.
What if my pet missed a booster?
Depending on how long ago, we may need to restart the series. Bring your records and we'll figure out the most efficient catch-up plan.
Do you do mobile or in-car vaccines?
Yes for established patients with anxiety. Call ahead to schedule a curbside appointment — we come out to you, vaccinate in 5 minutes, and you're on your way.
